Adult antennae are brown with white scapes. The vertex of the head is black with white warts. In males, the cercus is large, broadened distally and the distal edge has a curved indentation; roughly triangular in outline (Nimmo, 1971).

Larvae graze for algae and diatoms from rocks.

This species is Holarctic in distribution. In North America, it extends from Alaska, south to Colorado and east to Newfoundland. It has not been recorded yet in Alberta, however there are collection records as close as Great Slave Lake (Nimmo, 1971).
